Survey Is Live & Calling All Mavens!

Been a busy week but I finally have the survey online. Now I need you to take some time and help me cut through the clutter.

As solo entrepreneurs, can I get your answers and suggestions? The survey is only 7 questions and no, there's no money involved for you greedy little minions who read this blog. It's a way to help those who haven't gotten started yet to know what it's really going to take. Here's where the survey is posted. What Would Have Helped You Get Started?

Don't take a lot of time with it, usually your first answer is the right one and it's not a test of any kind. My goal with the membership site is to give real help to those just trying to become solo entrepreneurs and create an income from home in a small business of their own.

2. Rich Schefren has a new manifesto you can download that is a 'must read' if you are rethinking your business or thinking about how to make more money with it. It's a big cracker to download but it is worth the time.

I have my own copy and printed out only the worksheets - yes, it's that good.
It's a road map to help you in setting up the system that's going to allow you to work on your business and increase your profits without the long learning curve.

Many of you with online ventures already know where I'm headed with this but for those of you with solo ventures where your time is the what you sell - then this is going to open your eyes to a whole new way of getting out of the 'same kind of business' mentality with your customers. Here's the link for The Road map To Mavenhood Revealed

On the topic of where you are and where you're going with your solo business - How's your future looking today? If you don't know then it may be time to get away from your business for a day or two and think about it. Why are you doing what you're doing? Why did you choose the business you have over all the available opportunities that were out there?

Here's my point. If you don't know where you are going with your business, besides making money or buying the latest gadget - you are looking at your future.

What happens when the market changes? Markets are people and they do change! What is your backup plan if you could not work on your business or even a job for a year?

My suggestion: Find a quiet spot, anywhere that takes you away from your business and the busy actions of your life for a couple hours.

Carry a small notebook with you and take a serious look at your home life and your business. Now ask yourself this question: Is this really what I want to feel, see, have or be in my future?

Oh and about the future...it's staring you in the face every morning. It isn't 'out there somewhere', it's the actions and choices you make on a constant basis - minute, by minute, by minute today.

That's it for today and I leave you with this -
If you're going to make a living putting odds in your favor,
you damn well better know how to calculate them.

Employee To Solo Entrepreneur

This delay in posting was for a good reason. After reviewing the posts for the past two years, I realized in 2007 the focus was more on giving you resources for an online venture, or some business opportunity instead of the purpose and mission of The Solo Gazette: Getting those of you who are still working full time jobs to take the steps into having a true solo business that gives you financial control over your life.

For that lapse, I sincerely apologize. With that said, here is where we are:
1. The Solo Gazette will have a new home by April 1, 2008. A great WordPress designer and solo entrepreneur named Liz is helping with the move.

You know me - if it can be screwed up, I'm your girl! Seriously, I'm keeping the focus of Solo Gazette on solo entrepreneurs, whether online or off but definitely to help you make the leap and give you resources to help no matter what business you operate.

Everyone needs marketing, financial and day-to-day operations advice that works. That is going to be the focus. Everything else, yeah well....let someone else get into it. You don't need me to tell you how to build a website, do search engine optimization because there are others who have waaay more experience that I listen to - they will be the ones I recommend.

2. Quotes. Yep, they'll still be a part of the blog.
3. Articles from other sources. Yes, if they further our mission to get it going and making it last! No articles, out-side posts just to increase the noise from hacks.

4. Rants and Raves. I'll be more selective in them (at least the raves part) and if you are looking for me to be less opinionated - ain't going to happen. There are entirely too many 'wanna-be' business advisors for me to take pot shots at to let a good rant go by.

5. Membership site. Yes, I'll have this fully tested by the end of March. I'll tell you more about it later but I will add this: It will move fast, be 52 weeks of 'take action steps' and isn't for the freebie seekers.

That's it for today and I'll leave you with this
